The solar panels in your backyard are all well and good, but they’re nothing compared to the Energy Duck. This giant floating duck is both a public art installation and a green power plant. The duck is covered in photovoltaic panels to capture energy from the sun during the day. Additional energy creation comes from in-house turbines that are activated when the Energy Duck is flooded.
In addition to serving as a power plant, the duck is also a view point for its home city, Copenhagen. Visitors can see how the duck generates energy and also catch a great view of the Danish capital. The Energy Duck was designed for the 2014 Land Art Generator Initiative Copenhagen, a contest that seeks out public art installations that can also function as full-scale green power plants.
