If you have ever woken up with the imprint of your pillow on your face, you will certainly relate to Iranian artist Maryam Ashkanian's range of embroidered pillows.
Using the finest fabrics and materials, Ashkanian portrays images of people sleeping by stitching them into pillows. Her intention is to present dreaming as a way of entering another universe. "Images of us in dreams are revealed in the right truest evidence; an original icon which introduces us to the peripheral world wildly," says the artist. Though science does not yet allow us to see what others are dreaming, Ashkanian's embroidered pillows offer a raw, relatable depiction of the connection between the physical world and the dream world.
Embroidered pillows from Ashkanian's "Sleep Series" are available at galleries internationally, and are a decor accent that doubles as immersive art.
