UPS is working with Innovate UK as part of the Low Impact City Logistics program to bring electric bike trailers to the streets of London, England. The more eco-friendly urban delivery system will be part of a trial in an effort to reduce both carbon emissions and congested traffic. If deemed successful, the fleet of e-bike delivery vehicles could have a significant impact in other busy British cities.
The 'depot-to-door' system will be introduced in Camden first -- an area known for its large amount of traffic. The idea is to keep polluting vehicles off the roads during peak times. Couriers get an extra boost of power from the electric bike trailers too, rather than having to carry heavy loads on their own.
