The 'ECOncrete' Waterfront Infrastructure Replaces Ripraps

The 'ECOncrete' waterfront infrastructure solution has been created as a replacement for conventional ripraps that would provide long-lasting protection for coastal shorelines to prevent erosion, while also accommodating for aquatic life.

The concrete components are constructed with an almost diamond-like shape that is integrated with a hollow portion that will allow aquatic life and vegetation to flourish. This will provide much-needed space for coastal areas to be supported to further protection against erosion and help aquatic life to more easily settle in.

The 'ECOncrete' waterfront infrastructure solution was used at the Port of San Diego where 74 interlocking single-layer armor units were installed. At the end of the three-day installation, the concrete components were laid to provide an additional 1,000-feet of protection for the coast.
