Hair combs, paper towels and brightly-colored strings and straws are all elements in the Spring 2009 Maison Martin Margiela Artisanal collection.
One of the standout pieces is a tasseled dress made entirely from multicolored shoelaces. There is also a one-legged jumpsuit made from old jean shreds and a dress made of hair combs.
I’m not sure how practical the designs are, but they are certainly eye-catching and imaginative. The masked models make the clothing stand out, but I don’t like them. It seems as though the designer wants to erase human identity in order to exalt the creation. It seems to me that fashion should celebrate and accentuate humanity rather than attempt to minimize it.
