Researchers from the Georgia Institute of Technology reveal that they are working on an earring concept that might ensure sexually active couples do not have an unwanted pregnancy.
The big drawback on existing contraceptives like birth control pills or condoms is that they have "low adherence" to the skin. The alternative method — one that is expected to have a significantly larger success rate, comes in the form of adhesive patches that can be attached to jewelry. Wearers are expected to have the earrings on for 16 hours a day and to take them off at night time in order to "retain the contraceptive hormones in their bodies."
The earring concept hasn't been tested on humans yet but has shown promising results on pigs and hairless rats.
