The Wat'Bag provides a simple but innovative solution for keeping drinking water clean during the transportation process in developing countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Wat'Bag is a z-fold plastic bag that lines the inside of jerrycans to protect the water from bacteria often found inside. Remnants from oil and petrol often contaminate previously safe water, eliminating the work that NGOs do to try and keep drinking water clean in places like refugee camps.
Since they knew jerrycans were commonly used across nations to transport water, the designers worked within that existing framework instead of trying to change human patterns and waste millions of jerrycans with an entirely different design. With support from Doctors Without Borders, designers Chloe Louisin and Nadine Nielsen hope to have these liner bags in use as soon as possible.
