The Jiaolong-600 -- more commonly referred to as the Dragon-600 -- is an amphibious aircraft constructed by China Aviation Industry General Aircraft. When completed, the Dragon-600 will officially become the world's largest functional sea plane.
The Dragon-600 will boast a maximum takeoff weight estimated at 53.5 tons. It will be capable of maintaining an operational range of up to 5,000 kilometers. This, in addition to its amphibious design, could make it ideal for emergency operations such as humanitarian relief and large-scale firefighting projects, where short takeoff and landing capabilities may be necessary.
The seafaring abilities of the Dragon-600 enable it to land in remote areas where there are water bodies present but no landing strips or airfields for conventional aircraft.
