A series of installations by artist Mark Roberts called 'Down in the Dumps' gave trash cans a humorous spin. The artist stuffed fake people into public trash receptacles in Wales in order to give the impression that people were being thrown in the trash. The lower half of a person's body realistically hung out of multiple waste bins to entertain passing pedestrians.
Each sculpture was formed with duct tape and then dressed in casual clothing to trick spectators into thinking someone fell asleep rummaging through trash. The artist made the sculpture to surprise pedestrians while inspiring conversation.
Though very entertaining, Down in the Dumps was not cleared by the Wrexham city council. However, Roberts avoided legal difficulties by removing the sculptures after a few hours.
