The Dougong Table by Mian Wei Features No Screws

The Dougong Table is a furniture piece designed by Boston-based Mian Wei as a table that takes the traditional namesake Chinese architecture aesthetic into account for a no-fuss construction process. The table requires no screws to be assembled, but instead utilizes a series of grid-like design to provide a strong foundation that doesn't skimp on complex style. A series of bracket connectors allow beams to be slid through to create the weight-bearing base, which allows it to be erected without tools for a fuss-free user experience.

The Dougong Table was explained by Wei who said, "This project, on the one hand, tries to go back to the root to reinvestigate the practicality and scalability and bring new life to the ancient tradition. On the other hand, the project seeks to explore new aesthetic possibilities of the structure with modern forms and production techniques."

The table is the winner of the Silver A’Design Award in the homeware and furniture category.
