Photographer Donald Weber has spent six years documenting life in both Russia and Ukraine. His time in the Ukraine led to him developing a relationship with Ukrainian police, who allowed him access to interrogation rooms to photograph suspected criminals for his series, entitled 'Interrogations.'
The suspects in Weber's photographs–all of whom consented to having their photographs taken–appear fearful, distraught and in complete anguish. In a joint statement with writer Larry Frolick for his book , he and Weber say that "the unseen subject of these photographs is Power." I couldn't agree more, in these dimly lit rooms one can almost feel the unseen presence of authority and power hovering in the background.
Donald Weber's series Interrogations is a sobering look at power; a look at those who wield it and those who are subjected to it.
