NVIDIA launched the latest revision of its digital upscaling technology titled 'DLSS 3.0.' This is the latest update to the performance-improving upscaling technology built for NVIDIA's first-party graphics processing units. DLSS 2.0, the previous iteration, featured five operating modes, each of which focused on a different balance between quality and performance, ranging from 'Ultra Performance' to 'Ultra Quality.'
DLSS 3.0, though, improves upon the DLSS 2.0 tool by adding support for NVIDIA Ray-Tracing. NVIDIA titles this new operating mode 'Ray Tracing Overdrive,' which enables digital upscaling of real-time lighting features. In terms of the performance gain from Ray Tracing Overdrive, NVIDIA showcased that enabling the feature with an RTX 4090 on Cyberpunk 2077 in 4k-resolution brings the average FPS from 22 to 100.
Aside from Cyberpunk 2077, DLSS 3.0 is currently supported in over 35 apps and games, including the Unity engine as well as Unreal Engines 4 & 5.
