DIY Girls is a non-profit organization that was created to empower teenager girls who come from low-income families to "pursue the fields of technology and engineering," and a group of teenagers in this organization have created a tent for Los Angeles' homeless community.
Created by a team of 12 teenagers who no had no prior experience in engineering, the solar-powered tent was designed with the help of YouTube videos and Google searches. The tent was created for those in Los Angeles who are homeless, a group that unfortunately continues to expand in numbers.
As a result of their hard work, the teenage girls won a $10,000 grant from the Lemelson-MIT program in Boston, where they will also present their work.
