Crowdsourced Ocean Research Apps

The Diveboard App Lets Divers Share Their Finds with Scientists

The Diveboard app by divers Alexander Casassovici and Pascal Manchon lets scuba divers from around the world help in the advancement of science. Since traditional scientific databases often contain stale data, Diveboard works to give scientists access to fresh information.

The app is basically a social networking app built exclusively for divers. Scuba divers can use the app to identify aquatic creatures that they encounter in order to build a log. That data can then be stored in a database so that researchers can have access to recent occurrence data. As a result, divers get to identify their ocean finds while scientists get an up-to-date view of aquatic life.

Diveboard is currently available for iOS and Android devices. The app can also be accessed online
