No one can reasonably expect a young child to know how to best monitor a chronic disorder, but the Diabetes Treatment concept enables kid patients to get a little more involved with their health regimes. Stephanie Compard received an Honorable Mention within the 2013 Red Dot Design Awards competition for this smart monitoring system.
The most interactive part of the set is the digital wristwatch that's been programmed with four modes. Part of it keeps track of the child's medication schedule, one setting is a blood sugar gauge and the other two are related to insulin needs and dosages. The Diabetes Treatment wristband is accompanied by an insulin pump for injecting the youngster's medicine, and a charger keeps the touchscreen apparatus juiced up so that meticulous management is never switched off.
