This Artificially Intelligent Robot Can Detect Dementia Symptoms

A group of researchers and engineers working out of the University of Toronto have developed an artificially intelligent robot that is set to be used to help detect dementia and Alzheimer's symptoms in residents of retirement homes.

Named Ludwig, this high-tech robot is going to be deployed detect dementia and associated symptoms -- such as changes in speech parameters -- in the One Kenton Place retirement home in Toronto. The robot converses with seniors and assesses their state using complex algorithms.

If the initial trials prove successful, there is every chance that Ludwig and similar robots will be used in a growing number of retirement homes to detect dementia symptoms early, allowing medical staff and caregivers to be proactive in their treatment assessments.
