Delve Architects Adds Extensions to Houses in Surrey

Local design firm Delve Architects has added extensions on the side and rear sections of a pair of semi-detached homes for next-door neighbors. This project is located in Surrey, UK and the team adds two-story extensions to both homes to replace what was once a cramped kitchen space. Now, it opens up with a bright and open-plan layout along with additional bedroom spaces at the top.

The co-founder of Delve Architects, Ed Martin explains "We wanted the project to be as sustainable as possible, re-using bricks taken from demolition and reducing the amount of concrete and steel on the projects. Each two-storey extension is built from construction timber framing, with a brick outer leaf. The challenge became how to coordinate the new, straight structural frame to tie into the two cottages, whose imperial brick layers had moved and settled differently over the years."
