Deku is a new wooden furniture building system created by designer Takuto Ohta. The modular system is comprised of an array of wooden planks that can be fastened together by their pyramid-shaped edges. As a result, owners of the system can stack and build their own furniture by playing with different designs, creating anything from coffee tables to benches and chairs.
Although modular furniture is typically associated with pure functionality, Ohta brings a distinctly artistic flair to his system. The design of Deku was inspired by the stone piles that are found washed ashore on beaches and riverbanks. Because of this, Deku boasts a uniquely organic aesthetic. In addition, each wooden piece has been dressed with colorful masking tape, allowing users to customize their own furniture color palettes as well.
