Prodigious Debating Supercomputers

IBM's 'Watson' Uses 'DeepQA' Technology to Debate Issues

IBM's famous supercomputer Watson has special 'DeepQA' technology that allows it process natural human language and formulate arguments for and against any given assertion. The computer can be asked to discuss any topic under the sun; it responds by scanning its knowledge database for relevant content, make sense of the data and argue for and against the topic.

In a recent demonstration, Watson was asked to present arguments for and against the sale of violent video games to minors. Watson proceeded to scan Wikipedia for relevant information before offering highly sensible and articulate arguments for against the idea.

Watson's answer wasn't a simple regurgitation of sentences copied from Wikipedia articles. Rather, the supercomputer used its DeepQA technology to scan sources for information, select the strongest arguments and construct sentences to present those arguments.

IBM believes the DeepQA technology's ability to process huge amounts of data, extract information and find answers could have a number of applications as humanity grapples with exploding, vast amounts of information.
