Automotive tires are characterized by their air-filled tube design, but the conceptual 'Dandelion' tire by NEXEN Tire has been created to change this with a far more futuristic aesthetic. The tire consists of 72 independent leg pins that are attached to a central rotating hub; each of the pins will compress when pressure is applied to help achieve a far more secure connection with the ground. This makes the tires ideal for off-road environments and require little to no maintenance to eliminate the occurrence of failure when out in the field.
The conceptual 'Dandelion' tire allows the individual pins to be swapped out when broken to eliminate the need to replace the entire unit unnecessarily. The tire concept is the winner of the 2019 Red Dot Design Concept Award.
