Scientists from the Institute for Integrative Nanosciences in Dresden, Germany have created the world’s first remote-controlled cyborg sperm. The scientist had a bull sperm crawl in and embed itself into a narrow metal nanotube. The nanotube was then controlled by a magnetic field to move it in the direction desired.
The German scientists see this advancement as progress in aiding fertilization. If sperm can be physically controlled, than pregnancies need not be a game of roulette. Instead, doctors can lead sperm to the egg themselves to guarantee conception so couple don’t have to waste time and money on multiple fertilization treatments. The nanotechnology can also be used to deliver medication to specific targets in the body.
This cyborg sperm is a strange and unusual advancement in science, but nonetheless has real-world applications.
