Crystallized Furniture Design

Tokujin Yoshioka Grew the Venus Natural Crystal Chair Himself

Artist and designer Tokujin Yoshioka created this ‘natural crystal’ chair in an aquarium. It sounds almost too strange to believe, but there are pictures to prove it. Just how seventh grade science students grow their own crystals in eggshells (am I the only one who did that?), Yoshioka grew the crystal chair himself.

The design is intriguingly original, but it’s another example of form coming far ahead of function. While the look of the crystal chair is worth coveting, there won’t be too many people lining up to sit in it. One word: ouch.
