A group of engineers and scientists working out of the lab of Dr. David Zarrouk over in Israel's Ben-Gurion University have developed an extraordinary crawling robot, dubbed the Single Actuator Wave-like Robot, that is designed to be able to crawl in what is a single pure wave motion by making use of a singular motor design.
What makes this particular crawling robot stand out from other bio-inspired robots capable of crawling is the fact that it features a linked slatted design that was developed by making use of 3D-printing technology. The motor rotates the robot's spine, resulting in a continual wave motion.
This crawling robot could be used to infiltrate and inspect hard-to-reach areas such as pipes or areas suspected of containing hazards.
