Nicolas Orellana and Yaseen Noora — students of Lancaster University in England, have come up with a compact wind turbine, whose eco-friendly design has the potential to "take urban energy-harvesting to another level." The innovation is specifically catered to the dynamic metropolitan environment both with regard to material construction and form.
Dubbed the O-Wind Turbine, the silhouette is specifically made to be dynamic, adaptable and durable. Nicolas Orellana and Yaseen Noorani envision their creation to be hung from balconies or the sides of buildings. The compact wind turbine is made to be omnidirectional through sliced vents onto its surface. When in contact with wind, the piece "spins the sphere on a single axis like a globe" which, in turn, generates energy.
The O-Wind Turbine is a design that will surely add to sustainable practices and one, which will allow for citizens to be more cost-effective in their own homes.
