In the wake of the climate change crisis, many brands have opted to create sustainable products and services to appeal to conscious consumers and Airbnb is no excpetion -- the rental platform is sending five volunteers to Antarctica to collect snow samples in order to determine the amount of microplastics present.
The trip will be lead by scientist Kirstie Jones-Williams along with Antarctic Logistics and Expeditions and the volunteers will stay at Union Glacier Camp. Those attending the trip will collect data from the camp and various glacier locations -- locations that are unlikely to possess microplastics. The expedition will provide scientists and citizens with more information regarding the effects of plastic pollution on remote locations around Antarctica.
