Rejuvenated Chinese Train Stations

MAD Architects Breathed New Life Into a Century-Old Station

China-based, globally renowned architecture firm MAD Architects has brought all of its expertise to bear on the Jiaxing Train Station, a Chinese train station that was originally built in southeastern China well over a century ago but has now been brought back to life as a transportation hub.

Originally constructed back in 1907, this Chinese train station was destroyed and rebuilt until a decision was taken a few years ago to create a more modern version of the train station in keeping with growing demand.

Accordingly, MAD Architects was commissioned, with the company going to painstaking lengths to scour over old photos of the original train station before going about creating a more sleek and modern train station that still manages to respect the aesthetics and historical traditions of the original space.

"The overall design of the interior maintains a dialogue with the recreated 1907 station through a glass facade that clearly expresses the height difference of the two structures from the entrance," MAD Architects noted.
