Noah's Ark-Inspired Museum

Architect Firm Olson Kundig Designs the New Children's Museum in Berlin

The Jewish Museum in Berlin has recently opened its ANOHA children's museum, designed by architecture firm Olson Kundig. The design of the structure was informed by the story of Noah's arc. The goal was to create a space where issues surrounding climate change could be easily digested by young children.

The structure is made up of a timber doughnut shape, complete with warm tones and soft shapes that allow for the free and safe movement of young children. The arc is filled with a series of exhibits designed to engage and educate young children on climate issues in an age-appropriate manner.

The arc is completed with hundreds of animal sculptures created by local German artists using sustainable materials. Upon entering the doughnut, it has a submarine-like quality, which points towards climate disasters such as floods. The ANOHA children's wing thoughtfully balances informative and playful.
