Industrially Constructed Steel Furniture

Konstantin Grcic Designs the Chess Collection for Magis

German designer Konstantin Grcic creates a series of metal drawers and cabinets entitled the 'Chess collection' for design studio Magis. The range of steel furniture is constructed using manufacturing techniques that Grcic saw during his visit to a steel factory in northern Italy. The designer had traveled specifically to Vincenza in the north-east side of Italy to pay a visit to the factory of Fami. Fami is a steel manufacturer that crafts storage systems for warehouses and industries.

Grcic then imagines the concept of these large industrial pieces into pieces of furniture suitable for domestic spaces. The Chess collection is comprised of steel metal cabinets in a variety of lengths and sizing, with each individual item created with either a drawer closure or a sliding door with the options of dark red or white. Additionally, the cabinets can either be offered as a single piece or a larger component made up of an arrangement of units. All of the furniture pieces come with oak-crafted wooden handles.
