BMW has expanded its charging pilot program beyond Germany and into the United States. The charging pilot program will initially be available to 200 eligible homes in California, which will be required to have enough space to charge a car, either inside or outside. Home charging will be installed by Qmerit. Potential early adopters can be pre-qualified through an online questionnaire. If approved, they can visit one of 33 locations to sign into a 33-month lease on a 530e BMW. Through the program, all home installation costs are paid by BMW.
The charging system is able to provide an output of 3.2 kW, which will allow users to charge the BMW 530e iPerformance in approximately 3.5 hours. Charging efficiency is rated at around 85%.
