Charge-Free E-Paper Displays

Microsoft Research's E-Paper Gets Charged by Office Lights

Microsoft Research, part of the R & D department for the massive technology company, has developed a new type of charge-free e-paper display that could replace the Post-It note in offices around the world. Thanks to incredibly energy efficient solar panels, the device never needs to be charged, potentially ending the waste that gets produced by writing out paper notes.

The charge-free e-paper in the new digital note device is very similar to the screens on e-readers, with a soft design that is easier on one's eyes than standard screens. This type of material draws far less power than other screens, making it easier to charge. Microsoft Research's new solar panels can then draw energy from even the comparatively dim light of an office or home interior, meaning that it never needs charging.
