Australian architect John Ellway renovated the Cascade House, which is a family home located in Paddington. It is an early 20th-century cottage that is meant to encourage indoor and outdoor living. It only depended on a minimal amount of renovations led by Ellway with the purpose of creating more playful spaces for the three children of the family. The defining update are the staggered interior design.
Ellway tells Dezeen that, "The stepping plan allows the living spaces to open onto grass and across the pool, creating an uninterrupted connection to the garden. The addition creates a place to gather for conversation, meals and games. The existing cottage received minimal intervention. Really only having its floors sanded, walls painted, insulation added and electrical replaced."
