Jurjen Semeijn from the Dutch creative agency I HAVE POP designed some very good-looking cardboard sneakers. He recreated the Nike Blazer High, Adidas Superstar, New Balance 574 and Puma Clyde from the boxes they came in. Semeijn designed these shoes because he thinks recycling shoe boxes isn’t just enough. Recycling the shoe itself would contribute even more to the environment.
Semeijn's shoes are definitely eco-friendly, but the bigger statement he makes about the state of our "disposable culture" is what has really given this art project a lot of traction. Upcycling is gaining attention -- and fast.
