As the youngest car artist in the world, Cao Fei's newest project has been highly anticipated.
Her latest work, a BMW M6 GT3 art car, is a mixed media display consisting of a video component, a virtual reality display accessed through an app and a carbon black BMW M6 GT3. Cao Fei is known for producing work that is reflective of Internet and tech culture. This project focuses on the future of mobility, specifically the speed of change in China and how that effects its traditions and future.
Through the use of augmented reality, Cao Fei is able to heighten the experience of a physical object. At the center of this piece is a 586 horsepower sportscar. Displayed in a matte black carbon finish, the vehicle melds seamlessly into the digital space while still paying homage to its carbon fiber chassis. Cao Fei's art car will race at the FIA GT World Cup in Macau and will have a virtual display at Art Basel Switzerland in June 2017.
