The preppy Burberry Prorsum Pre-Fall 2009 collection was rich in beautiful shades of twilight indigo and rich plums, making for a very regal way to ring in the colder months.
Christopher Bailey showed his affinity for tights, and the collection acted as a stunning demonstration of the way in which women can continue to wear his beautiful dresses well into winter. He contrasted outfits made of metallic leather velvet with dresses made of "silk crepon printed with digitized images of a Baroque etching the designer bought at an antique shop."
The first part of the 2009 Burberry Prorsum Pre-Fall collection evokes images of private school uniforms with its deep navy blues and grays. It was an illustration of body hugging, business chic attire, with pieces like dress pants tight in the thighs and flared at the bottom.
Few hues act as greater ocular massage than the rich royal blues and regal purples chosen by Bailey. The designer added an air of playfulness to the collection by accessorizing with giant faux flowers fastened to loose, long necklaces in soothingly deep shades of cobalt blue.
Digital image screening was used on a few dresses, including on a knee-length aubergine number which displayed what looked like an image of a renaissance painting.
One of the most covetable piece in the collection was a deep cornflower blue trench with 3/4 sleeves. It's a feast for the eyes in a photo, one can only imagine the presence it would have in real life.
