Designer Marc Newson teamed up with French craftsmen Dormeau & Peres to release the ‘Bumper Bed.’ This concept is inspired by a number of influences in Newson’s life, and is to provide an optimal sleeping experience that is refined to modern standards.
Newson’s inspiration for the bed came from both boxing rings and water rafts which help to explain the exterior construction. Since 1997, the designer has said to have slept on a mattress on the floor because a bed is "one of the hardest things to find." Subsequently, the designer created that suited his needs and desires of a bed frame. The bed uses polurethane foam blocks and elastic webbing to create a thick solid-edge that encloses the mattress (and yourself,) but can be a used as a place to sit on.
