Sculptures Made of Styrofoam

Anti-Monuments by Folkert de Jong

I've never built a house, but if I do, I'd probably need certain materials, yet Styrofoam isn't the first thing I think of. I've also never made any sculptures, and Styrofoam as a medium doesn't enter my mind for that either.

The Dutch artist Folkert de Jong does use these materials in the creation of his anti-monuments. Hell, for all I know, he might even use even stranger supplies. It certainly works though because ‘strange ’is the best word to describe his work.

A quick Google search tells us, "His sculptures and installations clearly engage in a dialogue with traditional figurative sculpture. Yet in this dialogue everything is transformed, in part precisely by the use of fragile and vernacular materials, in part by his iconography. De Jong’s tableaux are grotesque and gothic, steeped in horror, comics, and fantasy,"

'nough said, now let's start building that house…
