Sawdust-Made Seating

The Broom Chair is Stylishly Simple and Eco-Friendly

The Broom Chair may not at all look like it was crafted out of sawdust, but it really is. This stunningly simple design is as eco-friendly as it gets. The Broom Chair is made out of a combination of recycled and recyclable lumber waste (sawdust), reclaimed polypropylene (plastic) and glass.

Designed by Philippe Starck in collaboration with Emeco, a furniture brand based in Hanover, Pennsylvania, the Broom Chair was originally conceived back in 2001 when it was envisioned as a bucket chair with a curved aluminum seat and backrest embedded in a plastic frame. When Magnus Breitling, the director of product management for Emeco, began to explore environmentally-conscious designs, the new materials for the Broom Chair were used.
