At first glance, you may mistake the material covering each piece of furniture in the Breaking the Bottle collection as AstroTurf. Unfortunately, if you ran your hands along each surface, you wouldn't feel relatively soft artificial grass. Instead, you might accidentally cut yourself since it is actually covered in a half ton of shards of recycled glass.
Created by Brooklyn-based artist Mark Reigelman II, the Breaking the Bottle collection is comprised of 12 household objects including chairs, a book and even a bearskin rug. An art installation rather than a real furniture collection, it is currently being displayed at the Heller Gallery in New York. Granted, the furniture showcased is completely functional, although not at all that comfortable.
