Modular School Houses

The ‘Boxchool’ is a Modular School for Lower Developed Countries

IDIM Design Laboratory created the ‘Boxchool,’ which is a school house that can be packed up, shipped and then reconstructed in a simplified process. The modular schoolhouse is designed to help bring education to lower developed countries where the resources for building and maintaining educational facilities is very limited.

A single Boxchool is crafted by upcycling a shipping container. The shipping container is filled with materials to build a school such as outer frame modules, panels and solar panels. The low-cost of the classrooms is amplified through the solar panels, which plays a vital role in the energy efficiency of each box.

When the boxes are shipped and assembled, they have to ability to add other schoolhouses. By using connected clips, the houses can join together and creates educational communities. The ultimate goal for this project was to find a better way to bring proper facilities to less developed areas of the world.
