Boston Dynamics is using its robot dog to help patients with COVID-19, by enabling healthcare professionals to virtually interact with patients. The robot dogs are currently working at Boston hospitals including Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Boston Dynamics is also making the software used in the project available publicly.
The project uses a robot to hold an iPad and a two-way radio system. These robots can be guided to where patients are located and assessments can be completed while a doctor is at a safe distance.
Boston Dynamics will now look for ways to collect patient information like temperature using the robots. As this would allow doctors to treat patients more remotely. Overall the project shows potential for how robots can be implemented to ensure safety for healthcare workers.
