Darin Cosgrove's ‘Boat Tail' Mod Boosts Fuel Economy

Why didn’t anybody think of putting a boat tail on a car before? Darin Cosgrove has, and his 1998 Pontiac Firefly, known as a Geo Metro in the states, now gets an astounding 64 mpg.

Cosgrove built the tail out of cardboard, aluminum, and duct tape. The result is ugly but impressive. Along with the other additions Cosgrove made, the car now gets 15% better fuel economy. The boat tail is a kick ass DIY project with awesome results.
