It was set in a platinum ring with two white emerald cut diamonds on either side and sold for $7.8 million in Hong Kong. The diamond was purchased by Moussaieff Jewelers for their collection of rare gemstones.
The previous record for a diamond called the Hancock Red was a little over $900,000 per carat back in 1987.
