Blind Beauty Uses Braille and Scents to Cater to the Blind Community

Blind Beauty is a sight-loss inclusive cosmetics and skincare brand that is working to make beauty products and packaging more accessible. The brand was founded by Hazel Baybasin after she was diagnosed with a rare brain condition that drastically impacted her vision. What Hazel quickly discovered was that there was a severe lack of accessibility within the beauty industry.

In addition, Hazel learned that without sight, the texture and smell of a given product become highly important. As a result, she founded Blind Beauty and began producing accessible beauty products made with braille labels. Visually, her packaging designs were minimalist. However, they prioritized the package texture and scent of the product to cater to blind communities.

'I’d have to increase product prices to make it possible, but I don't think it's fair to charge somebody more to make something accessible for them. It’s frustrating. If you’re a multi-million dollar company, why would you not make your product accessible if you can afford to?" said Baybasin in a recent interview with Elle.
