Painless Biopsy Devices

This Compact Gadget Collects Skin Samples Without Leaving Any Scars

A group of researchers working out of the University of South Australia have developed a miniature biopsy device that is designed to make it possible to test skin cells for the potential detection of skin cancer in a painless manner.

The issue with conventional biopsies for skin cancer is that they are often very painful for patients and can leave scars. In order to get around this problem, the Australian researchers developed a compact biopsy device that makes use of a needle half a millimeter wide to draw out a very small skin sample.

Capable of collecting 200 skin cells that can then be used to make diagnostic assessments of skin cancer, this biopsy device doesn't leave any scars and causes practically no pain, making it a comfortable and easy-to-use tool for skin cancer diagnostics.
