The Canadian made 'SmartHalo' turns any regular bicycle into a smart bike by pairing a physical device with a cell phone app that enables a bicycle GPS system to track and navigate routes as well as prevent theft.
While there are other smart bicycles on the market, the design of the SmartHalo is minimalist, created with the idea that simplicity is safest while on the road. The circular device is placed on the front of the bike and flashes colors to direct the cyclist. Green arcs direct the cyclist left or right, a red semi-circle signifies a U-turn and a green circle tells the user they've arrived.
In addition to acting as a bicycle GPS, the device also tracks routes, distance and calories burnt during the ride. Finally, the device is designed to give off a loud ringing alarm when the bike is being tampered with and the corresponding phone is not nearby.
