Earlier this year, rumors began circulating about a flexible LG display that would have the ability to bend and fold like a piece of paper. This technology eventually made its debut at CES 2016 in the form of a working prototype.
The latest LG display is a fully flexible screen that can be bent, scrunched and rolled up like a piece of newspaper. This feat is possible thanks to the shift from LED to OLED, which has removed the necessity for the back panel. The current prototype is 18 inches with a resolution of 1,200 by 810 pixels. In the future, the company plans to design a 55 inch version of the screen with 4K screen capability.
Although the flexible LG display is not yet ready for market, the prototype debuted at CES 2016 demonstrates that bendable screens may be the future of consumer electronics.
