Bicycle Seat Furniture

Scarabike Applied Transportation Design for the Urban Dweller

Hiroshige Koike of Scarabike, created a sofa and stool for the Tokyo Design Festival where his company is a returning exhibitor. The seating was made using bicycle seats from the bicycle line’s production. The seating was later used in a public space to restate the company’s vision of a direct solution for the best approach to design.

After all, a bicycle seat is pretty basic.

Japan’s Scarabike uses a minimalist concept based on functionality. It does not have multiple speeds. It is not a mondo-kick-butt extreme sports machine.

This bike IS basic, practical and elegant. Designs are customized to express the personalities of their users and the functions they wish to carry out.
