Kenyan Ambulance Made of Bamboo

Bambulance

The name on its own makes this an awesome invention already, but what the creators of the Bambulance hope to do for the people of Kenya is even more incredible.

The bamboo emergency medical transportation devices (EMTD) are a project of Design for Development Society. Their mission was to utilize sustainable local materials in both the design and manufacturing process of the ambulances; bamboo was an obvious choice.

The project will offer EMTDs for those patients in need of transportation who wouldn't otherwise have access to emergency care. The Bambulance is to provide more affordable and faster transit times. The DDS also wants to train and employ HIV+ women to provide positive work opportunities
