Bikes have to be both aesthetically pleasing and durable, which is why bike designer Lance Rake developed bamboo bicycles from a laminate woven and laminated bamboo.
The industrial design team responsible for the bike has been exploring the use of bamboo for a while, searching for possible uses for the material, hoping they can create sustainable materials from it. The bike, which appears as a traditional road bike, features a delicately woven bamboo frame, making it stand out from others on the road. The bamboo provides both durability and strength, offering variability in tube sizing, while also providing "shock absorption and stiffness that sounds similar to more familiar steel and carbon characteristics, while still shaving weight compared with solid bamboo."
