Acclaimed photojournalist Balazs Gardi has created his latest collection of photos documenting the war in Afghanistan using his iPhone. Gardi used Hipstimatic, a popular photo app to capture these heart-wrenching photos.
Balazs Gardi started shooting pictures for his collection starting back in September of 2010. He found that through these photos he could express something extremely powerful and record the lives of US marines and the Afghans they interacted with. He collaborated with three other photographers on a project called Basetrack which takes the photos and displays them on a map, so that the user can view Facebook posts, interviews, news feeds and the photographs depending on the area of Afghanistan. Gardi started his photo project so that he could use his art as a sort of teaching tool and continues to use his skills to provide the unseen and often forgotten side of war.
